Cross Catholic Outreach launches special campaign to supply water to 14 impoverished Nicaraguan communities

Boca Raton, FL (Dec. 20, 2011) — Cross Catholic Outreach, a Catholic relief and development organization based in South Florida, has launched a special campaign to provide life-sustaining water to impoverished Nicaraguan villages.

Through this public appeal, Cross Catholic seeks to raise $585,376 to help complete a project which will build wells in 14 rural communities and help more than 1,000 desperately poor families living outside the Nicaraguan city of Chinandega.

To accomplish this mission, Cross Catholic is working in partnership with their ministry partner, Amigos for Christ, which has been working on alleviating human suffering in Nicaragua for more than a decade. Together, Amigos and Cross Catholic have built houses for former slum dwellers, provided food for starving villagers and are now committed to providing clean water for the thirsty, who currently rely on contaminated water.
“Water is such a simple thing, yet we cannot live without it. Through this special campaign, we have a chance to bring life-sustaining water to thousands of people. And it’s quite humbling to see how many people have already committed to funding the project. We are truly blessed,” said Jim Cavnar, president of Cross Catholic Outreach.

Cavnar added that every contribution, large or small, is important.

“This is an outreach that depends on collective charity – the combined resources provided by caring Catholics here in America,” he said, “and we deeply appreciate every dollar contributed.”
